Lecture services

My most popular lectures cover my climbing, and are supported by high quality images and footage shot by professional photographers and film makers. I also give entertainment and educational presentations on understanding motivation, mastery and performance.
My lecture content and focus is flexible so please get in touch if you want to discuss an idea or request a lecture.
Popular lectures
Here are some lectures I've done recenty. I always add in some stories about what projects I'm working on right now. These are just a few of many different presentations I can adapt.
Eleven Plus
The first ascent of Rhapsody E11 and my preparation for it. The concept, the preparation climbs, 500 feet of falls, the strategies and setbacks and what the success meant to me in the end. Images and video clips from the film E11 and other first ascents around Scotland.
Stepping Stones
My personal missions in climbing and what the activity means to me. I talk about my approach to climbing, why I like to climb hard routes in lots of different climbing disciplines and how I try to manage the effort.
Are you an athlete?
After 13 years trying to be a successful athlete myself and 8 years studying sport science I am still fascinated by the interactions of motivation, environment, attitude and inspiration and how these inlfuences act on the person underneath the performer in whatever their chosen sphere to help or hinder them in their progress. I discuss what I've learned in this area based on my experiences, study and observing and coaching other people trying to be athletes. This lecture can be given with reference to climbing, or to sport in general or other areas of life.
Comments from reviewers
"This was the first time I'd seen Dave speak and his passion and committment to hard climbing really shone through his quietly spoken and understated delivery. With a good mix of stills and video there were some visual treats and as a speaker he takes British reticence to a fine art, but on the rock and ice reticence is the last thing you would think of..."
Ian Smith, Climb Magazine, reviewing the Kendal Mountain Film Festival 2005.
“Very good speaker, excellent laid back style of speaking. Very good at engaging the audience. Extremely interesting talk”
Audience, Dumbarton Literary Festival lecture 2007
